HTC Mozart updated to Windows Phone Tango aka WP7.5 refresh (Updated)

It seems that the much-discussed update to Windows Phone Tango is being released at this very hour, to report it is Aviraj Ajgekar, Technology Evangelist for Microsoft writing on his  technet blog that his unlocked HTC Mozart  received an update that upgraded his HTC Mozart to  software version 7.10.8779.8.

You acknowledge that you have received as many as 3 consecutive updates to bring your own device, the shift has seen these different versions, build 8112.7 -> 8773.98 -> 8779.8.Despite this, the download time of several updates is quite low, probably because Windows Phone Tango does not offer a significant number of new features.,mostly some fixes and updates to the OS (mostly around enhancing MMS).

Update: Aviraj has deleted the post from his blog and no one else is reportedly getting this update. Is yet another Microsoft employee being misinformed or was this an internal update for testing?

LG abandons Windows Phone, will focus on Android Phones for now

In the past few hours LG told the Korea Herald had no future plans regarding Windows Phone based smartphones, noting thatThe total units of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a significant figure. " .
The interview with the Herald, however, continued reassurance by LG will continue its efforts on research and development for the Microsoft system.
From these words it can be assumed then a long pause where LG will not launch any Windows smartphone, probably jumping the launch of Windows Phone 8 and waiting for a "silent" eventual success of the OS made in Redmond.
LG then leave in the hands of Nokia, Samsung and HTC the fate of Windows Phone, a major loss for the mobile OS where the cheapest devices were precisely those of the Korean manufacturer.

Windows Phone OEM's are demanding more UI flexibility on Windows Phone 8

According to Digitimes Taiwan OEM's  have urged Microsoft to provide more flexibility to enable smartphone makers to modify applications and the user interface on Window Phone 8 so that smartphone makers will be able to come out with differentiated devices, according to industry sources.

Apparently OEMs believe that hardware differentiation is not enough, and hence they are making calls for a differentiated software experience, which will most definitely kill the timely OS updates, if allowed.

"Microsoft should count on the launch of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 to compete with iOS and Android in the second half of 2012, since PC users will be more eager to take up Windows Phone 8 smartphones if they are familiar with Windows 8. As a result, Microsoft should adjust its policy to enable IT product developers to develop applications for PCs, tablet PCs and smartphones, therefore expanding the Windows Phone's ecosystem in a fast manner, the sources commented."

So far the only OEM allowed to customize Windows Phone was Nokia and so far we haven't done anything so far, but enjoyed the very good sales, mainly because of  the commitment Nokia made to marketing the its Windows Phone devices.

Russian site W7ph.ru reports that one of their members came across an upgrade for his HTC Surround which provided a Tango early preview (7.10.8107 to 7.10.8757.81).

Microsoft has been handing our HTC Surrounds as developer devices after poor sales on AT&T, which may explain the existence of the software.
