Microsoft was already working on Windows Phone 8 before Windows Phone 7

In practice, Microsoft was aware that Windows Phone 7 would have a short life and the next generation of Windows Phone smartphone would bring a change so radical that it would not allow the current smartphone to be updated.

"According to Greg Sullivan, Microsoft has always known that they would soon abandoned Windows Phone 7. Asked when he started developing Windows Phone 8, it turns out that the development was done in parallel with Windows Phone 7 ... The team that developed the version 7.5 worked in parallel with the core team of Windows Phone 8. In fact some of that work had already started before Windows Phone 7 is still available ... Greg adds: "Sometimes there are generational changes in a platform, and sometimes companies do in order to give existing users We ... we tried to do so in a way that continues the momentum had with this platform from the point of view of developers and bringing new value to existing customers."
Perhaps Microsoft wanted to send a first version of its mobile operating system in a hurry because the competition of iPhone OS and Android had now become very strong, this has led to an OS that can not exploit all the features that will be implemented in future versions of Windows Phone 8.

Recall, however, that Microsoft has promised to update all current smartphone to Windows Phone 8 after releasing an intermediate version called Windows Phone 7.8 you will see the same screen of the Windows Start Phone 8 and hopefully a number of new features. At the moment, unfortunately, in terms of new features implemented in the new version of the Windows Phone OS we know very little.
