Not so good news for Nokia users who are used to tap into the vast database of NaviFirm to download the firmware dedicated to the Nokia. Nokia seems to have chosen to block unauthorized access to NaviFirm by the end of January.
As demonstrated recently with Windows Phone 7.8 update for the first Nokia Lumia generation NaviFirm is an important resource that allows you to install the latest firmware even before the official release.
According to the Nokia bulletin released by Smarmobil:
"Nokia will close the connection to the Nokia Firmware Repository during the month of January 2013 and will integrate access control. Then, to access the Nokia Firmware Repository will need to login at Nokia OnlineDuring the transition phase (December 2012-January 2013) and the open channel, both the subject with the restriction will be open, but the open channel will be closed at the end of January 2013."
In the statement does not specify which type of account you will need to have (for example, the traditional Nokia account would suffice).
Interesting to note, at least for the firmware dedicated to all Windows Phone 8 that Microsoft, in June 2012, announced a program that would allow users more eager to test the new software updates to try them before the official release. It is still unclear whether the measure that Nokia seems determined to adopt by end of the year is in some way linked to this program.
Waiting for more information on this, users who are accustomed to attend NaviFirm may consider the possibility to download the firmware that can be considered useful for your needs.
